Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions for Your Website
Not long ago I blogged about all the pages you need on your website including a privacy policy and a terms and conditions page. These two pages not only protect you from certain legal liabilities, but they also are helpful in earning trust from your website visitors and credibility from a search engine optimization perspective.
Privacy policies are a necessity, especially if you are asking for email addresses anywhere on your site. Consumer Reports even lists a privacy policy as one of five necessary elements of a website. You can read that list of five by clicking here -> Consumer Reports Webwatch Guidelines.
A terms and conditions page also can be very helpful depending on the purpose of your website. For example, if yours is an e-commerce or membership site, you should always take this precaution.
The No. 2 Pen will write just about any web content for our clients except for privacy policies and terms and conditions. These pieces of content should either be written by your legal counsel or on your own using an online resource.
The Direct Marketing Association has an excellent privacy policy generator that is easy to use and easy to read. If you need to create a privacy policy on your own, we highly recommend you take the time to use their generator. You can find it by clicking here -> Direct Marketing Association Privacy Policy Generator.
