11 More Newsletter Article Ideas
Awhile back we wrote a post about articles ideas for your marketing newsletter. Turns out that post is one of our most popular, so I thought I’d give you a few more article ideas for your next marketing newsletter.
1. Tips and advice
When you write newsletter articles that include advice, keep it short and sweet, not preachy.
2. Quizzes, trivia, and contests
Newsletters don’t have to be so serious all the time. Try adding a little fun by giving away prizes and offering fun nuggets of info your readers might not know.
3. Human interest stories
Is someone in your company doing something amazing? Feature an employee or board member who does something exceptional in their spare time or during the work week. Show the human side of your business.
4. Insider information
Your newsletter subscribers should be treated special. Make your readers feel connected to you by offering them information first, before you tell everyone else.
5. Top 10 lists
David Letterman is a smart guy (most of the time). Here are a few examples you could use:
- Top 10 Events at XYZ Co. in 2009
- The 10 Ways XYC Co. Can Make Your New Year Better
- 10 Funny Holiday Toasts
6. Celebrate the season
Acknowledge the time of year and offer a nice greeting. Back to school, New Year’s, and Fourth of July all represent appropriate times for a nice note that your audience will appreciate. Get creative and be friendly.
7. Let them know how to find you
Make it easy for your readers to connect with you. For example
- Trade shows booth numbers
- Dates of speaking events
- Social media links
- Networking events you will be attending
8. Invite guest authors to contribute
Just like with blogging, it’s completely fine to invite others to contribute articles to your newsletter.
9. Mention your media mentions
Whenever you or your business is mentioned in the mainstream media or on a blog, share the info with your readers. It’s okay to brag — a little.
10. Poll your audience, do research
Let your readers in on your research. Give them polls and surveys to participate in (if they want) and let them know that what you are doing is an important contribution to the industry. With this research, put together a white paper or a press release and even mention those who participated (with their permission, of course).
11. One very well researched and informative article
You need to provide one newsletter article that is thought-provoking, inspiring, or truly educational. No one wants 100% fluff. Give them hard facts and interesting data that impacts him or her in a big way.
This just barely scratches the surface on possible newsletter ideas. What do you put in your newsletter? Tell us in the comments.
