Do-it-Yourself Keyword Research
In a recent post, we talked about the No. 2 Pen keyword research service, which helps small businesses determine what words and phrases need to be incorporated into website content. But if keyword research isn’t in the budget or you want to expand/update your existing list, the following do-it-yourself keyword research tools will get you there.
Sets in Google Labs – Simply enter five terms on a subject and ask Google to expand on the set of terms. Ideal for vague idea generation.
Wordtracker - Now that you have ideas, start developing a concrete list of keywords. Use an Excel spreadsheet to organize the terms.
Google Keyword Tool – The mother of all keyword research tools. Using your Wordtracker list, prioritize keywords based on high search volume and reasonable competition.
Addict-o-matic – Once you’ve decided on your keywords, plug them in to Addict-o-matic and see what kind of information exists all over the web. Great for coming up with ideas for web content and blog posts.

Sara, I very much appreciate this list of keyword research tools, as I’ve recently begun doing online work. Now I have no excuse for being a bit more serious.
My eyes are seeing post titles that may lead me to learning more technical things that I’ve been avoiding. As I grow older, I seem to want to fit into that silly adage of “can’t teach an old dog new tricks. ~Your fellow Blogathoner.

Thanks, Su-sieee! Mac… Keywords are important but well written content is more important. I think what you’re doing is fantastic, and would an old dog start a blog? I don’t think so. Give yourself some credit!
