What Matters More – Website Design or Web Content?
In the very beginning, I put up a simple five-page website to advertise No. 2 Pen’s services. I didn’t invest in professional web design or even a logo, but I did take the time to write stellar content. Conversion equaled zero.
It didn’t take long before I asked an SEO web designer to take No. 2 Pen’s web presence up 20 notches. After a complete redesign that included logo creation, web traffic and customer conversion rates went way up. Game, set, match.
To me, this proves that web design and web content have equal importance in online marketing. What do you think?
Does one aspect have more influence in online marketing than the other?

I would have always said content first–and I still believe that. But I don’t think the design of the site is that far behind, as you discovered. It might be time for my redesign. But I resist the cost.

The more I think about it the more I feel it’s equal.
Bad design + great copy = nothing
Great design + bad copy = nothing
And I agree with you on the price. It’s a bummer, but a logo is less than $200 and that alone can make a HUGE difference.

Both are important. No matter how good the content may be, if the design is too messy and busy, the content won’t hold my attention.
