Pledge: Spare the Web from Haphazard Copy and Design {IMAGE}

What do you think of websites with these features?

  • White text on black background
  • Super long paragraphs with no real point
  • Pictures that don’t match headlines

If you are anything like me and my graphic designer friend Anna Schmohe of Studio Schmo, then you probably believe that black backgrounds, endless paragraphs, and pointless headlines are wrong! You probably also believe that web content and web design are integrally linked. You can’t succeed online unless you succeed at both writing and design.

Now, we mean no offense to the owners of poorly designed and poorly written websites. We’re all working within budgets, and we all have to start somewhere. Plus, good writing and good web design is sometimes a matter of opinion. However, Anna and I believe that a commitment to a few standard copywriting and design practices will greatly improve your website and the state of the web in general.

Will you join us in our fight against haphazard web copy and design?

To take the pledge against bad websites all you have to do is share the below image. Whether you Pin, Tweet, or Like this post (social media icons on the bottom of this post) or embed the image on your own blog (embed code down below), you’ll be telling your followers that you are opposed to haphazard copy and design. You, my colleague in quality, will be telling the world wide web that you are committed to making the web a better place.
