How The No. 2 Pen Copy Editing Service Works

The No. 2 Pen has a keen eye for detail and is equipped with knowledge in grammar, punctuation, and style. We take what you’ve written and use our tools to make your brilliance even brighter.

A proper copy edit includes minor fixes like spelling and grammar, but it also makes sure your copy makes sense. Does your story flow in a logical way? Is the reader left wondering why you didn’t explain more in chapter two? A copy editor will help you notice these things and help you improve your overall project.

Generally, we expect to read through your project twice. Here’s a brief explanation of how our copyediting service works:

1)    The first edit is thorough and will result in several questions. You will then work through the suggested edits to fill in holes, correct errors, and rephrase wording where necessary.

2)    On the second edit we will pay close attention to all of your changes to make sure everything reads correctly. If more edits are necessary, then we’ll give it another look, but usually no more copy edits are necessary and the content can be prepared for publication.

Proofreading Service

First comes copy editing, then comes proofreading.

By now, your project should be near complete. You know all the necessary elements are there, you just need someone to make sure there are no typos or formatting problems. A proofreader ensures page breaks fall in the right place, headlines are consistent, and that there are no spelling or grammar errors.

If you worked with the No. 2 Pen on the copy editing phase of your project, then we will assign a different person to proofread your content. A fresh eye and a new, sharp pencil can make all the difference in a well-done proofread.

The length and complexity of your project will determine both pricing and turnaround time for your proofreading project. Much like copy editing, we will provide our suggested edits using the redline function in Microsoft Word.

Rewriting Services

In some cases, your writing needs more than copy editing and proofreading – it needs to be rewritten. We will make sure to keep your main ideas intact, but will create sharper text with a creative perspective.
